Chapter 15 - The Prince and the Don

|

Six months later, the spring sun bathed the private gardens of the Moretti estate in a glorious sea of blooming white hydrangeas and fragrant lavender.

A small string quartet played a classical melody from the stone gazebo, their music drifting across the immaculate lawn.

It was not a traditional underworld wedding filled with armored cars and stone-faced bodyguards; it was an intimate, private gathering of true family and loyal friends.

Dr. Vance was not there, Mateo was forgotten in a federal penitentiary, and the shadows of the past had dissolved into the sweet spring air.

Anias stood beneath an archway woven of white roses and ivy, looking striking in an impeccably tailored black three-piece tuxedo.

His dark hair was neatly styled, his jaw clean-shaven, and the tension that had haunted his eyes for five years was replaced by an unshakeable, profound serenity.

Beside him stood Carmine, wearing a sharp charcoal suit and smiling proudly as his best man.

The music transitioned into a gentle, romantic processional, and the small crowd rose to their feet.

Walking down the stone pathway lined with rose petals was four-and-a-half-year-old Leland.

The little boy looked magnificent in a miniature navy three-piece suit that matched his father’s style perfectly, complete with a tiny silk bow tie.

Under his left arm, he carried his beloved brown teddy bear, while in his right hand, he proudly held a small velvet pillow carrying two platinum wedding bands.

Leland walked with serious, determined steps, his gray eyes shining with pride as he looked directly at the towering man waiting at the end of the aisle.

Behind the boy walked Nancy, and Anias felt his breath catch in his throat, exactly as it had the day they first met a decade ago.

She wore an exquisite ivory lace gown that flowed around her like water, her hair arranged in soft, elegant curls with white jasmine blossoms woven into the braid.

She held a simple bouquet of white peonies, her hazel eyes locked onto Anias with an intensity that spoke of total forgiveness and enduring love.

When Nancy reached the archway, Anias stepped down to take her hand, lifting her fingers to his lips for a soft, reverent kiss.

Leland stood proudly between them, looking up at his parents with a wide, triumphant grin.

The minister spoke beautiful words of endurance, redemption, and the unbreakable bond of family, but Anias heard only the rhythm of Nancy’s breath and the rustle of the spring leaves.

When it was time to exchange the rings, Anias took the smaller platinum band from the velvet pillow, slipping it onto Nancy’s finger with hands that were completely steady.

“With this ring, I give you my life, my honor, and my eternal devotion,” Anias vowed, his voice ringing clear and strong across the sunlit garden.

“I promise to be your shield against the storm, and your shelter when the night is cold.”

Nancy took the larger ring, sliding it onto Anias’s scarred hand, her eyes glistening with happy tears.

“With this ring, I welcome you home,” she said softly.

“To our son, and to my heart, where you have always belonged.”

“By the power vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife,” the minister announced with a broad smile.

“You may kiss your bride.”

Anias gathered Nancy into his arms, dipping her gently as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed five years of lost time into an eternal future.

The small gathering erupted into cheers and applause, with Carmine clapping so loudly his broad palms echoed across the lawn.

When Anias straightened up, Leland tugged gently on the hem of his father’s tuxedo trousers.

“Papa! My turn!” the boy called out, hopping on his polished leather shoes.

Anias laughed—a rich, booming sound filled with pure joy—and bent down to scoop his son into his arms.

He held Leland on his hip, while wrapping his other arm securely around Nancy’s waist, bringing his family into one tight, unbreakable embrace.

Leland reached out with both hands, pressing his small, warm palms against his father’s cheeks, exactly as he had in the small tailoring shop the day they were reunited.

The little boy looked into Anias’s eyes, his face beaming with absolute certainty and boundless love.

“You’re the best Papa in the whole world,” Leland announced proudly to the entire garden.

Anias rested his forehead against his son’s brow, closing his eyes as a tear of pure gratitude slipped down his cheek.

“And you are my greatest masterpiece, little lion,” Anias whispered, kissing the boy’s cheek before looking down at his smiling wife.

The mafia boss had lost his empire of blood and shadow, but in its ashes, he had found the only kingdom that truly mattered: his family, whole and safe forever.
