Chapter 15 - A Legacy of Love and Honor

One year after the trial, the vast gardens of the Moretti estate blossomed with thousands of white roses, hydrangeas, and sweet jasmine.
A magnificent white canopy stood on the emerald lawn overlooking the tranquil, sparkling waters of Lake Michigan.
Over two hundred guests sat beneath the sunlit marquee, including community leaders, extended family, and lifelong neighborhood friends.
At the front of the altar stood Frank Moretti, smiling proudly as he served as the best man for his only son.
Frank’s eyes shone with joyful tears as the string quartet began playing the soft, romantic chords of a classic Italian melody.
Luca stood at the altar looking striking and proud in a bespoke black tuxedo, his eyes fixed entirely on the garden path.
The crowd rose to their feet in unified admiration as I stepped onto the white petal-strewn aisle.
I wore an off-the-shoulder gown of delicate French lace, holding a bouquet of white peonies and fresh olive branches symbolizing peace.
My mother walked beside me, wiping tears of overwhelming happiness from her eyes, her home and life fully secure.
As I reached the altar, Luca stepped forward and gently took my hands into his, his fingers warm, strong, and steady.
“You look like an angel, Claire,” Luca whispered, his voice trembling with deep, unreserved emotion.
“You are the light that brought me home from the darkness,” he vowed softly before all our loved ones.
The ceremony was simple, profound, and filled with heartfelt promises of lifelong protection, mutual respect, and unconditional love.
When Luca slipped the platinum wedding band onto my finger, a soft cheer rippled through the gathering.
“With this ring, I give you my heart, my life, and my eternal loyalty,” Luca declared with unbreakable conviction.
“With this ring, I choose you as my home and my forever,” I replied, looking straight into his soul.
“I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the minister declared with a joyful smile.
Luca swept me into his arms, kissing me with a passionate devotion that sealed our new life together beneath the clear blue sky.
The celebration moved to the terrace, where a grand feast prepared by Frank and the culinary staff was served under twinkling fairy lights.
Laughter, Italian folk music, and the clinking of champagne flutes filled the warm evening air with pure celebration.
Frank tapped his glass with a silver fork, standing tall at the head of the head table.
The entire terrace quieted, looking with deep reverence upon the seventy-seven-year-old patriarch.
“One year ago, I was sitting at a dinner table, unable to hold a spoon, afraid that my own son was ashamed of me,” Frank began, smiling warmly.
“A cruel voice told the world that because I couldn't feed myself, I didn't belong at the table,” Frank recalled.
“But a humble, brave young woman named Claire stepped forward and gave me her own dinner,” Frank said, gesturing toward me with love.
“She showed this city that true nobility isn't found in money, titles, or power,” Frank proclaimed with pride.
“It is found in kindness, in protecting the vulnerable, and in standing up for what is right when everyone else looks away,” Frank taught.
He turned toward Luca and me, raising his glass high into the starlit Chicago sky.
“May your home always be filled with laughter, may your table always be open to those in need, and may your love remain unshakable forever,” Frank blessed us.
“To Luca and Claire Moretti!” Frank toasted with all the joy in his heart.
“To Luca and Claire!” the guests echoed with ringing joy that echoed across the lake.
Luca pulled me close into his arms as the music swelled, twirling me slowly across the terrace floor.

I looked over his shoulder and saw Frank laughing joyfully, pouring wine for his friends with hands that were strong, steady, and free.
The darkness was gone, the poison was erased, and in its place bloomed an unbreakable legacy of honor, family, and everlasting love.
