Chapter 14 - THE BLOODLINE OF LOYALTY

|

The morning sun broke over the horizon, casting golden rays of light across the expansive estate gardens.

Downstairs in the grand kitchen, the smell of fresh coffee and buttered toast filled the air.

Little Lily sat on a tall wooden stool at the center island, swinging her sneakers back and forth happily.

She wore an oversized navy blue Moretti hoodie that reached past her knees, chewing on a warm strawberry pastry.

Arthur stood beside her, his wrinkled hand resting gently on top of her soft brown curls.

Every few seconds, the old man would lean down and kiss the crown of her head, reassuring himself that she was truly there.

“Grandpa, that big man Marco let me siren the horn in his truck,” Lily giggled, her hazel eyes sparkling with innocence.

“He said you were the bravest butler in the whole world.”

Arthur wiped a stray tear from his eye with a linen napkin and smiled warmly at the little girl.

“Marco is a very smart man, sweetheart,” Arthur chuckled softly.

The kitchen doors swung open, and Luca walked in, dressed in a clean, crisp charcoal suit.

His left forearm was neatly bandaged beneath his sleeve, but his posture was upright and commanding once more.

The dark, suffocating shadow that had hung over him for the past two years seemed completely lifted from his brow.

Lily beamed at him without an ounce of fear.

“Good morning, Mr. Luca!” she chirped cheerfully.

“Good morning, princess,” Luca replied, a genuine, warm smile spreading across his handsome face.

He walked over to the island and pulled a thick leather folder from under his arm, placing it gently before Arthur.

“What is this, son?” Arthur asked, adjusting his wire-rimmed glasses to inspect the legal documents.

“Fifty years ago, you walked into this house and promised my father you would protect our family,” Luca said quietly.

“Last night, you saved this family from destroying itself from the inside out.”

“You took the blame, you bore the threats, and you never once gave up on my father’s honor.”

Luca opened the folder, revealing an official property deed bearing Arthur Collins's full legal name.

“This is the deed to an oceanfront villa in Santa Barbara, California,” Luca explained, his voice filled with deep gratitude.

“It has five bedrooms, a private citrus grove, and a heated pool overlooking the Pacific Ocean.”

“It is fully staffed, paid in full, and registered solely under your name.”

Arthur gasped, his hands trembling as he stared at the crisp parchment paper.

“Luca, no... I can’t accept this,” Arthur protested humbly.

“I am just a butler; this is far too much for an old servant.”

Luca reached out and firmly grasped Arthur’s weathered hand.

“You were never just a servant, Arthur.”

“You were the father figure who stayed by my side when my own blood plotted to kill me.”

“Alongside the deed is an irrevocable trust fund worth five million dollars for Lily’s education and future.”

“No Collins will ever have to worry about a roof, an inhaler, or a tuition bill ever again.”

Arthur broke down in tears, pulling the mafia boss into a fierce, tearful embrace that crossed every boundary of rank and wealth.

For the first time in five years of working in this mansion, I saw Luca Moretti return a hug with pure, unashamed love.
