Chapter 12 - The Boss's Wrath

|

Before Marcus Vance could pull the trigger, a shadow dropped from the iron rafters behind him like an avenging demon.

A heavy tactical combat knife slashed through the air, striking the mercenary on Marcus's right directly through the throat.

The man collapsed without a sound, spraying dark crimson across the cellar floor.

Dominic Bellini emerged from the pitch-black shadows, his face smeared with ash and his eyes burning with demonic fury.

Marcus spun around, attempting to raise his shotgun, but Dominic moved with terrifying, blinding speed.

Dominic’s left hand seized the barrel of the shotgun, forcing it toward the ceiling just as the weapon discharged with a deafening roar.

The blast obliterated the brickwork above their heads, raining plaster and dust down upon the cold stone.

With his right fist, Dominic struck Marcus squarely across the jaw with enough force to crack bone.

Marcus stumbled backward into the wine racks, shatter-resistant bottles exploding in showers of dark red liquid that looked like blood.

The second mercenary raised his pistol toward Dominic, but Dominic drew his sidearm from his hip and fired twice into his chest.

The thug crumpled onto the shattered glass, leaving Marcus alone on the floor, coughing up blood and clutching his broken jaw.

Dominic did not say a single word.

He walked slowly toward Marcus, the heavy soles of his boots crunching over broken glass with terrifying deliberation.

"Dominic... wait... we grew up together... we were brothers..." Marcus choked out, crawling backward in pathetic desperation.

Dominic kicked the shotgun across the room, sending it sliding harmlessly against the far wall.

He reached down, grabbed Marcus by his lapels with one hand, and hoisted the grown man entirely off the ground.

"You threatened my household," Dominic whispered, his voice dangerously low, calm, and lethal.

"You brought weapons into my home."

Dominic slammed Marcus against the damp brick wall, his dark eyes devoid of any human mercy.

"And you pointed a gun at the only woman I have ever loved."

Marcus’s eyes widened in sheer horror as he realized that no amount of money or old loyalty could save him now.

Dominic drew his tactical blade and drove it precisely through Marcus’s shoulder, pinning him against the wooden beam behind him.

Marcus screamed in agony as Dominic stripped his radio and private cell phone from his pocket.

"Federal agents and the state police are arriving at the gates right now, Marcus," Dominic said coldly.

"Emma’s audit has already been transmitted to the United States Attorney’s office."

"You are not going to die quickly in this cellar."

Dominic leaned close, spitting blood onto Marcus's cheek.

"You are going to spend the rest of your miserable life in a maximum-security cage, watching everything you stole turn to dust."

Dominic dropped Marcus to the floor, turning his back on his ruined lieutenant as the sound of police sirens filled the winter air.

He rushed over to Emma, dropping to his knees and pulling her trembling body fiercely into his arms.

"I have you," Dominic breathed against her hair, his powerful frame shaking with relief. "You're safe now."
