Chapter 10 - THE LEGAL MASSACRE

|
At 2:00 p.m. that afternoon, the downtown federal courthouse was swarming with news reporters and television cameras.
The Chicago Tribune and national news outlets were broadcasting live from the courthouse steps.
The headline scrolling across every news network was explosive: BILLIONAIRE HEIRESS AND SOCIALITE SISTER INDICTED IN MULTI-MILLION-DOLLAR ELDER ABUSE AND WIRE FRAUD CONSPIRACY.
Inside Courtroom 402, Vanessa Bellini sat at the defense table, stripped of her designer jewelry and bridal finery.
She wore a drab orange prison jumpsuit, her blonde hair unwashed and tangled, her wrists chained to her waist by heavy steel transport links.
Beside her sat Mia, shaking with terrified sobs, unable to look up from the wooden table.
Across the aisle sat Luca, wearing an immaculate tailored charcoal suit, his presence commanding absolute silence in the gallery.
I sat beside him, accompanied by Rosa and our lead legal counsel.
The federal prosecutor, working with evidence directly supplied by Luca’s intelligence team, read the charges into the official record.
“Your Honor,” the prosecutor stated, addressing the presiding federal judge.
“The government presents undeniable audio, video, and forensic pharmaceutical evidence.”
“The defendants, Vanessa and Mia Bellini, in active conspiracy with the organized crime syndicate of Detroit, systematically administered controlled toxins to an eighty-three-year-old victim.”
“They forged legal documents, impersonated the victim at multiple financial institutions, and attempted to flee the jurisdiction on a chartered private aircraft with over one hundred and twenty million dollars in bearer bonds.”
Vanessa’s court-appointed defense attorney stood up, his voice cracking with desperation.
“Your Honor, my clients plead for immediate bail.”
“They are young women with no prior criminal records—”
“Bail is denied,” the judge interrupted with a sharp crack of his wooden gavel.
“The court considers both defendants an extreme flight risk and an active danger to the community.”
“The evidence of premeditated elder abuse and identity theft presented here is among the most abhorrent this court has ever witnessed.”
Vanessa suddenly lost control.
She lunged against her heavy chains, screaming across the courtroom divider directly at Rosa.
“You senile old witch!” Vanessa shrieked, her face turning crimson with venomous hatred.
“You should be rotting in a nursing home!”
“You ruined my life!”
“You and your worthless son!”
Two federal marshals grabbed Vanessa by the shoulders, forcing her down onto the wooden bench.
Luca slowly stood up from his seat.
He didn't yell.
He didn't make a scene.
He simply looked across the courtroom directly into Vanessa’s wild, panicked eyes.
The absolute, unyielding coldness in his stare caused Vanessa’s screaming to die instantly in her throat.
She shrank back into her seat, realizing that even behind federal bars, she was utterly powerless against the shadow of the Moretti name.
“Remove the defendants,” the judge ordered with disgust.
As the marshals dragged the two sisters through the side holding door, Mia was crying out for their father, while Vanessa stared at the floor in defeated silence.
The heavy wooden door clicked shut, sealing them away from the world of luxury they had tried to steal.
Outside the courtroom, reporters rushed forward, their camera flashes illuminating the marble hallway like lightning.
Luca stepped in front of his mother and me, shielding us from the intrusive lenses.
“Mr. Moretti!” a female journalist shouted, thrusting a microphone forward.
“Is it true that your former bride attempted to eliminate your family line?”
“What is your message to the Bellini family investors?”
Luca stopped, looking directly into the primary television camera lens.
“My message is very simple,” Luca said, his voice carrying clearly across the crowded corridor.
“The Bellini name no longer exists in the city of Chicago.”
May you like
“And anyone who ever dares to target a mother in this city will discover that justice has no statute of limitations.”
He turned, offering his arm to Rosa, and gently guided us toward the private elevators.
