Chapter 13 - Blood and Redemption|

On Saturday morning, an unexpected visitor arrived at the mansion’s iron gates, seeking permission to enter.

It was Aunt June, looking frail and worn in an oversized gray knit cardigan, carrying an old cardboard shoebox.

Luca stood on the front portico, his arms crossed over his chest, his expression guarded and unyielding.

“You have five minutes, June,” Luca said coldly as the elderly woman climbed the stone steps with trembling knees.

June looked up at her nephew, tears spilling over the deep wrinkles of her weathered cheeks.

“I don't expect you to forgive me, Luca,” June sobbed, clutching the shoebox against her chest.

“Vanessa threatened to have my son’s medical license revoked through her father’s political connections.”

“She told me if I didn't keep Samuel away from you, they would ruin my entire family.”

Luca didn't speak; his silence was a devastating wall of judgment that offered no easy comfort.

“I was a coward, Luca,” June whispered, looking down at the marble steps in profound shame.

“I let that venomous woman poison that sweet boy’s mind because I was terrified for my own son.”

Samuel suddenly stepped out through the front doors, wearing his baseball jersey and holding Frank’s old coat over his arm.

June gasped, covering her trembling mouth as she looked at the nephew she had pushed away for months.

“Sammy…” she choked out, her voice breaking completely.

Samuel walked slowly toward his aunt, looking at her with eyes that carried neither malice nor bitterness.

“Did Dad really love me, Aunt June?” Samuel asked quietly, the question that had haunted him for so long.

June dropped to her knees right there on the wet stone porch, reaching out with shaking hands.

“Frank worshipped the ground you walked on, Sammy!” June cried hysterically, opening the shoebox on the floor.

Inside were dozens of cassette tapes, handwritten journals, and childhood drawings Samuel had made over the years.

“Your father spent his last healthy months recording stories about your mother so you would never forget her voice!”

“Vanessa ordered me to burn them, but I hid them in my attic!”

“Your father loved you more than his own life, Samuel! He never wanted you to feel like a burden!”

Samuel looked down at the precious treasures of his lost parents, his eyes welling with warm, healing tears.

He knelt down on the cold stone and wrapped his arms around his weeping aunt’s trembling shoulders.

“I forgive you, Aunt June,” Samuel whispered gently against her gray hair.

Luca watched his little brother extend grace where vengeance was deserved, and a tear finally slipped down the mafia boss’s cheek.

Frank was right; Samuel was the gentlest part of their bloodline, and his mercy was far more powerful than any weapon.
