Chapter 14 - The New Dawn|

Six months passed, bringing with them the golden warmth of late summer and the promise of a completely transformed life.

Under Luca’s decisive leadership, the Moretti family completed its full transition into legitimate corporate enterprises.

The dangerous underworld alliances were permanently severed, replaced by clean investments in maritime shipping, real estate, and charitable foundations.

Don Bellini’s empire had completely collapsed following federal indictments, and Vanessa had relocated to Europe in complete social disgrace.

The Moretti mansion, once an intimidating fortress of stone and shadow, was now overflowing with vibrant light and continuous laughter.

Fresh flowers sat in every crystal vase, and the sound of classic rock music drifted frequently from the garage workshop.

Luca spent his Saturday mornings teaching Samuel how to restore Frank’s vintage 1968 Mustang convertible.

I watched from the kitchen window, drying a ceramic bowl, as grease-stained brothers laughed together over an open engine block.

Luca wiped his brow with an oily rag, saying something that made Samuel double over in hysterical, breathless laughter.

A soft knock on the kitchen doorframe made me turn around; Luca had quietly slipped inside to wash his hands at the sink.

“What are you smiling about over here, Hannah?” Luca asked, soaping his forearms with an amused twinkle in his eye.

“Just watching two stubborn Moretti men pretend they know how to fix a carburetor,” I teased gently.

Luca laughed, drying his hands on a clean kitchen towel before stepping closer to where I stood by the counter.

His eyes lingered on my face with an affection that had grown deeper and more undeniable with every passing week.

“The family foundation is hosting its annual charity gala at the Drake Hotel next Friday,” Luca said softly.

“I know,” I replied with a warm smile.

“I’ve already coordinated the catering staff and floral deliveries.”

“I don’t want you coordinating the staff, Hannah,” Luca said, reaching out to gently take both of my hands in his.

My breath caught in my throat as his warm, strong fingers intertwined with mine.

“I want you to attend as my guest,” Luca whispered, his voice rich with sincere, heartfelt devotion.

“I want the whole city to see the incredible woman who saved my brother and brought this family back to life.”

Tears of pure happiness stung my eyes as I looked into the steady, loving gaze of the man who ruled my heart.

“I would love nothing more, Luca,” I whispered back.

From the open doorway, Samuel poked his head in, an enormous, mischievous grin stretching across his freckled face.

“Does this mean you two are finally going to get married so Hannah can officially be my sister?” the boy cheered.

Luca threw a clean dish towel at his brother’s head, and the three of us dissolved into joyous, unrestrained laughter.
