Chapter 6 - The DA's Ultimatum|

Across town, in the wealthiest district of the city, a crystal tumbler shattered against a marble fireplace.

District Attorney Vance stood behind his mahogany desk, his face crimson with fury.

Julianna sat on the leather sofa, sobbing uncontrollably with her ruined makeup smeared down her cheeks.

“He called off the engagement in front of a kitchen full of low-class line cooks!” Julianna shrieked, clutching a silk pillow.

“He threw me away like garbage for his miserable ex-wife!”

Vance gripped the edge of his desk until his knuckles turned pure white.

“Diego Ramos thinks he is an untouchable god,” Vance growled, his voice trembling with venomous rage.

“He forgets who signed the court dismissals that kept his shipping empire running clean.”

He walked over to his daughter and placed a heavy hand on her trembling shoulder.

“He forgot who made him.”

“He said the ex-wife was pregnant with his heir, Daddy!” Julianna wept, looking up with venom in her tearful eyes.

“If she has that baby, he will never need our family again!”

Vance’s eyes narrowed into cold, calculating slits.

“Then she won't have that baby,” the District Attorney said with icy finality.

Julianna stopped crying, a chilling silence settling over the mahogany-paneled study.

“What do you mean?” she whispered, leaning forward.

“The Ramos family bloodline ends with Diego,” Vance said, reaching for his secure encrypted satellite phone.

“I gave him an opportunity to legitimize his underworld enterprise through you.”

“He chose an unwanted stray instead.”

Vance dialed an international number that did not exist on any official public registry.

On the third ring, a voice answered on the other end with a harsh foreign accent.

“Mr. Vance,” the voice greeted, cold and metallic.

“Is our agreement active?”

“Ramos broke the contract,” Vance said into the receiver without a trace of remorse.

“His alliance with my office is officially severed.”

“And the shipping routes through the eastern port?” the caller inquired smoothly.

“They are yours,” Vance promised, staring out the window at the distant glittering skyline.

“On one condition.”

“Name it,” the caller responded instantly.

“Diego has an ex-wife,” Vance said, his voice dropping to a sinister hush.

“She is heavily pregnant, completely unprotected, and currently hiding in the city.”

“Find her before he secures her.”

“Take the girl, terminate the unborn heir, and Diego Ramos will be on his knees before the week ends.”

A dark, raspy chuckle echoed through the phone line.

“Consider it done, Mr. District Attorney.”

Vance ended the call and tossed the phone onto the desk with satisfaction.

Julianna smiled through her mascara stains, her eyes shining with cruel, vindictive anticipation.

“He will crawl back to me on his knees when she is gone,” she purred softly.

May you like

“No,” Vance said coldly, turning back toward his liquor cabinet to pour another drink.

“When we are finished with him, Diego Ramos won’t even have knees left to crawl on.”
