Chapter 10 - The Treachery Revealed|

Down in the soundproof basement of the Ramos corporate headquarters, three computer monitors illuminated Diego’s hardened face.

Beside him stood Luca, his chief intelligence officer, reviewing bank transfer logs and decrypted radio intercepts.

Diego leaned over the mahogany desk, his knuckles planted on the dark wood.

“Show me again,” Diego commanded, his voice colder than a winter grave.

Luca tapped a series of keys on the encrypted laptop.

“Three offshore shell accounts linked directly to District Attorney Vance received twenty million dollars last Tuesday,” Luca reported.

“The source of the funds originates from the Lucente syndicate in Sicily.”

Diego’s dark eyes narrowed into deadly slits.

“The Lucentes are moving heroin through my shipping terminals while Vance protects their transport trucks.”

“It gets worse, boss,” Luca said, bringing up a series of tapped telephone recordings.

“Vance was the one who leaked your private convoy routes seven months ago.”

“He orchestrated the assassination attempt that forced you to send Mrs. Ramos into hiding.”

The room temperature seemed to drop below freezing.

Diego stood fully upright, a terrifying calm washing over his chiseled features.

The puzzle pieces that had haunted his nightmares for almost a year finally locked into place with lethal clarity.

Vance hadn't just offered an alliance through an arranged marriage to Julianna.

Vance had systematically manufactured the war that tore his marriage apart, hoping to control Diego completely through his daughter.

“And the girl?” Diego asked, his voice deathly quiet.

“Julianna knew everything,” Luca confirmed.

“She was the one who gave the Lucente hitmen the security schedules for the downtown penthouse.”

Diego’s phone buzzed violently on the desk, vibrating against the polished wood.

He picked it up and pressed it to his ear without hesitation.

“Speak.”

“Boss, it’s Marco,” the security chief’s urgent voice crackled through the speaker.

“Miss Vance bypassed outer perimeter security using an old clearance code.”

“She confronted Mrs. Ramos in the master suite.”

Diego’s entire body went rigid with primal fury.

“Is Nelia harmed?” he roared into the phone.

“No, sir, we intercepted her before she could touch Mrs. Ramos,” Marco reported quickly.

“Miss Vance has been detained in the guardhouse.”

“Do not let her leave,” Diego ordered, grabbing his tailored coat from the back of his leather chair.

“Lock down the estate perimeter immediately.”

“Full combat protocol.”

“If District Attorney Vance is desperate enough to send his daughter into my home, the Lucente strike team won't be far behind.”

Diego hung up the phone and turned to Luca with eyes full of murder.

“Call every soldier we have in the tri-state area,” Diego commanded, loading a heavy black handgun and chambering a round with a sharp metallic snap.

“Tonight, we erase the Vance family name from this city forever.”
