Chapter 11 - THE FALL OF THE TRAITORS

|
Before Julian Russo could squeeze the trigger of his chrome revolver, a sharp gunshot rang out from the second-floor mezzanine.
Marco, positioned quietly behind the marble balustrade, fired a single, precise shot that struck Julian's right shoulder.
Julian screamed in agony, dropping the weapon as the impact spun him violently around toward the open doorway.
Vanessa shrieked, falling to her hands and knees among the glittering shards of shattered glass and spent bullet casings.
Luca moved forward like a striking predator, kicking the fallen revolver across the polished floor toward his men.
Julian collapsed onto his back, clutching his bleeding shoulder as Luca's heavy boot came down firmly on his chest.
"It's over, Julian," Luca said, pointing the barrel of his silver pistol directly between the rival boss's eyes.
"Kill me then, Moretti," Julian coughed, spitting blood onto his designer suit lapel.
"Do it and start a war that will turn this entire state into a graveyard!"
"There will be no war, Julian," Luca replied with chilling serenity.
"While you were planning this pathetic home invasion, my financial teams liquidated every offshore account under your name."
"Your captains in New York and Miami have already pledged fealty to the Moretti syndicate in exchange for their lives."
"You are not dying a mafia martyr tonight."
Luca lowered his weapon and stepped back, nodding toward the front entrance of the estate.
Through the shattered double doors, the flashing red and blue lights of dozens of federal law enforcement vehicles illuminated the rainy night.
Sirens wailed in a deafening chorus as armored FBI tactical vans screeched to a halt along the circular driveway.
Agent Miller, the lead federal prosecutor, marched through the front doors flanked by twenty heavily armed federal agents.
"Luca Moretti," Agent Miller said cautiously, scanning the secured foyer filled with disarmed mercenaries and surrender flags.
"Agent Miller," Luca responded smoothly, holstering his weapon with practiced ease.
"As promised on our encrypted call forty minutes ago, here is Julian Russo, the mastermind behind interstate racketeering and attempted kidnapping."
"And there," Luca added, gesturing toward the sobbing woman cowering on the bloody floor, "is Vanessa Bellini."
"She has provided a full, signed digital confession detailing five years of money laundering and treason against the state."
Vanessa crawled toward Agent Miller's polished boots, weeping hysterically and begging for protection.
"Arrest me! Please, arrest me! Take me away from this house! Don't leave me with him!" she cried out desperately.
Agent Miller signaled two female federal agents, who immediately stepped forward and snapped heavy steel handcuffs around Vanessa's wrists.
"Vanessa Bellini-Moretti, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit kidnapping, extortion, and interstate racketeering," the agent recited coldly.
Vanessa looked back over her shoulder one last time as she was dragged toward the rain-soaked fleet of police cruisers.
Luca stood tall in the center of his ruined mansion, his expression carved of stone, refusing to grant her even a single glance.
Julian Russo was loaded into an armored federal ambulance under heavy armed guard, facing three consecutive life sentences without parole.
Within an hour, the federal vehicles departed, leaving behind a profound, cleansing silence over the grand estate.
The storm outside had finally passed, and through the broken skylight above the foyer, the first pale light of dawn began to break.

Luca turned toward the grand staircase, his thoughts instantly flying back to the secret vault on the second floor.
He climbed the steps quickly, eager to hold his daughter and thank the woman who had protected her life with her own.
