Chapter 11 - THE SEVERED TIE

|
Derek Cole’s face was turning purple, his hands clawing uselessly at Luca’s iron wrist.
The sheer physical dominance of the mafia boss was terrifying to behold.
Yet, in that moment, I felt no horror toward Luca.
I only felt the awe of a mother watching an eagle tear apart a snake that had crawled into her nest.
“Luca,” I said softly, stepping closer.
“Don’t dirty your hands on him in this house.”
Luca paused, his jaw clenching as he heard my voice.
Slowly, deliberately, he lowered Derek until the man’s shoes touched the carpet, releasing his throat with a cold shove.
Derek collapsed onto his knees, coughing violently and clutching his bruised neck, gasping for air.
“Sign the termination papers, Derek,” Luca commanded, stepping back to his desk.
He pulled a thick, blue-backed legal document from the drawer and threw it onto the floor before Derek’s face.
“Judge DeLuca has already prepared the full surrender of parental rights.”
Derek looked up from the carpet, weeping from pain and humiliation.
“If I sign... will you let me walk out of here alive?”
“You will walk out of here,” Luca replied coldly.
“And my men will escort you to O’Hare.”
“You will take a one-way flight to Singapore, where a low-level shipping clerk job has been arranged for you.”
Luca leaned over his desk, his eyes colder than the winter wind outside.
“If you ever set foot on the North American continent again, Derek...”
“If you ever speak Madison’s name, or Ellie’s name, to another living soul...”
“I will not send lawyers.”
“I will send Marco.”
Derek didn't hesitate for another second.
With hands trembling so violently he could barely hold the pen, he scrawled his signature across all four pages of the termination agreement.
He dropped the pen, scrambled backward on his hands and knees, and bolted for the study doors.
Two security guards outside caught him by the collar, dragging him down the corridor toward the waiting unmarked transport van.
Derek Cole was gone forever.
The final link to the dark, painful past that had haunted my youth had been severed with iron finality.
I stood in the center of the study, the silence returning to the room like a peaceful tide.
Luca slowly walked around the desk, his gaze softening as he looked at me.
He reached out, his warm hands gently taking my cold, trembling fingers into his own.
“It’s done, Madison,” Luca whispered.
“He will never touch her.”
“He will never threaten your family again.”
A sob broke from my throat, and I fell forward into his arms.
Luca wrapped his powerful arms around my back, pulling me tightly against his broad chest, burying his face in my hair.
I wept tears of profound, overwhelming relief, feeling the immense weight of seven years of fear melting away against his heartbeat.
“Thank you,” I sobbed against his neck.
“Thank you, Luca.”
Luca held me tighter, his hand gently stroking my hair.
“You don't have to thank me, Madison,” he said, his deep voice thick with raw emotion.
“I didn't do it just for Ellie.”
He pulled back slightly, his thumbs wiping the tears from my cheeks, forcing me to look into his dark, luminous eyes.
“I did it because I love you.”
The world stopped spinning.
The winter rain outside the tall study windows seemed to fade into complete silence.
“You... you love me?” I whispered, my heart hammering against my ribs.
“From the moment you stood on your feet in that dining room and defied the woman who tried to break your child,” Luca said softly.
“I spent my life surrounded by people who loved my power, my money, and my violence.”
“You loved your daughter, and you brought light into a house that had been cold for thirty-five years.”
He leaned down, his lips brushing against mine with breathtaking tenderness.
“I love you, Madison Reed.”
May you like
“And I want to spend the rest of my life making sure you never shed another tear of sorrow.”
I closed my eyes, wrapping my arms around his neck, and kissed him with all the love, devotion, and fire that had been building inside my soul for months.
