Chapter 26 - The Flaw in the Ledger

The holographic projection lit the dark cathedral with blinding clarity, displaying lines of decrypted banking transfers, Swiss numbered accounts, and covert international shell companies carrying Cyrus Kane’s private digital signature.

A collective gasp echoed across the obsidian table.

"That's not Vittorio’s ledger," Norah announced, her voice ringing with undisputed authority. "That is an exhaustive, unedited audit of every dollar Cyrus Kane siphoned from each member of this table over the last fifteen years."

The Russian broker bolted upright, his face flushed with rage as his eyes scanned the screen. "Kane... you embezzled forty million from our Caspian pipeline project!"

"That’s a lie! It’s fabricated!" Kane sputtered, his aristocratic composure shattering into hysterical panic. He slammed his fist onto the table. "She's a jeweler's daughter! A thief who works with glass and trinkets! Don't listen to her!"

"A thief?" Norah laughed, a low, melodic sound laced with lethal venom. She stepped closer to the table, leaning her hands on the obsidian surface. "My father was an artist. You were a parasite who lived off his talent. Every key you used to breach Romano Logistics didn't unlock Sebastian's accounts—it initiated a hard wipe of your own hidden reserves."

Sebastian stepped up behind Norah, resting a heavy, possessive hand on her shoulder. The unspoken unity between them radiated an unstoppable authority that silenced the entire room.

"The *Tavola d'Oro* has rules for betrayal, Kane," Sebastian said softly, his voice deadlier than a drawn blade. "Embezzling from the council carries an immediate vote of forfeiture."

Sebastian looked around the table at the gathered syndicate bosses. "I propose we conclude this meeting. Romano Holdings will assume full control of Kane's European logistics routes. In exchange, I release the forensic data proving which of your lieutenants Kane paid off to facilitate his theft."

The council didn't hesitate. One by one, the bosses raised their right hands in unanimous assent.

"No! You can't do this to me!" Kane screamed, lunging for a concealed pistol beneath his jacket.

Before he could draw, Norah moved.

With the blinding speed honed by years of handling delicate, razor-sharp gem-cutting instruments, Norah grabbed an antique silver candelabra from the table and brought it crashing down across Kane’s wrist with brutal precision.

The bone cracked with a sickening snap. Kane shrieked in agony, dropping the weapon as he tumbled to the stone floor.

Sebastian stepped forward, kicking the gun across the floor before pinning Kane’s throat beneath the sole of his oxford shoe. He looked down at the whimpering banker with cold, merciless disgust.

"My father might have let you die quickly, Cyrus," Sebastian murmured, pressing down just enough to cut off his breath. "But Norah and I have decided on a more modern approach. Julian Cross has already transferred your files to the International Criminal Court and Interpol. By dawn, every asset you own will be frozen, and every government on earth will be hunting you."

Sebastian leaned down, his eyes boring into Kane’s terrified soul. "You will spend the rest of your miserable life running in the dark, wondering when one of my men will catch up to you."

Sebastian lifted his foot, stepping back to Norah’s side. He offered her his arm, his expression transforming from ruthless mob executioner to a man looking at his entire universe.

"Shall we, Miss Vance?"

Norah slipped her hand through his arm, smiling up at him. "Let's go home, Sebastian. We have an empire to run."
