Chapter 27 - The Obsidian Vow

Three days later, the private estate in Lake Como was utterly peaceful.
The morning sun reflected off the tranquil turquoise waters, warming the terracotta terrace where a breakfast table was set with fresh figs, espresso, and warm pastries. Below the terrace, private security patrolled the perimeter with discreet vigilance, but inside the villa, the violence of Milan felt like a distant nightmare.
Norah stood at the stone railing in a soft white silk robe, her dark hair tumbling over her shoulders in loose waves. She looked down at her hands. The bruises on her knuckles from the candelabra were fading, replaced by a deep, bone-settling sense of calm.
For the first time since she was a little girl watching her father work late into the night, she was no longer running. She was no longer looking over her shoulder.
Two strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a warm, muscular chest. Sebastian buried his face in the curve of her neck, inhaling deeply before pressing a tender kiss against her pulse.
"You're awake early," he murmured, his morning voice raspy and intimate.
"I’m not used to waking up without an alarm, or a threat, or a shipment of blood diamonds waiting to be inspected," she whispered, leaning her head back against his shoulder and closing her eyes.
"Get used to it," Sebastian said softly. "The syndicate council ratified the treaty yesterday. Kane was arrested attempting to board a private flight in Zurich. Romano Holdings is untouchable, Norah. We won."
Norah turned in his arms, wrapping her hands around the lapels of his linen shirt. She looked up into his gray eyes—eyes that had once terrified her, but now felt like the safest shelter on earth.
"And what happens now, Mr. Romano? You're a legitimate billionaire. You don't have to live in the shadows anymore."
"I don't care about the shadows, Norah," Sebastian said, his gaze intense, stripping away every defense she had ever built. "And I don't care about the billions. The only thing I care about is the woman standing in front of me."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, unadorned black velvet box.
Norah’s breath caught in her throat. Her heart began to race with that familiar, wild cadence. "Sebastian..."
He flipped the lid open.
Resting inside was not an antique heirloom belonging to the Romano bloodline, nor a stolen jewel from a foreign vault. It was a ring forged from brushed titanium and rare black diamond, its center stone an exquisite, radiant-cut Colombian emerald—green as her eyes, cut with an impossible, breathtaking sixty-four-facet pattern that only Norah herself could have designed.
"You made this," she whispered, her eyes shining with sudden tears.
"I didn't make it," Sebastian confessed, a faint, vulnerable smile touching his scarred lips. "I had your top apprentice in Antwerp cut it according to the design sketches I found in your personal notebook. You called it *The Unbroken Horizon*."
He took her left hand in his, his fingers gentle and reverent.
"You walked into my office accused of being a thief, Norah Vance. But the only thing you ever stole was me. You broke my father's curse. You forged a kingdom out of the ashes." His voice dropped, raw with emotion. "Be my wife. Be my partner. Rule this life with me."
Tears spilled over Norah’s cheeks, catching the morning sunlight. She didn't hesitate. She threw her arms around his neck, burying her face against his collarbone.

"Yes," she breathed against his skin. "Yes, Sebastian. A thousand times yes."
Sebastian let out a ragged breath, wrapping his arms around her waist and lifting her off her feet, spinning her around the sunlit terrace as the bells of the distant village chapel chimed across the water.
