Chapter 11 - The Lake Forest Ambush

|
The black Suburban convoy glided silently through the snow-covered wrought iron gates of the Bellini estate in Lake Forest.
Twenty minutes earlier, Vanessa had placed the call to Antonio Bellini, her voice perfectly mimicking the arrogant tone he expected.
She had informed her "uncle" that Frank had collapsed from a sudden heart attack after the wedding toast, exactly as planned.
Antonio, blinded by the prospect of claiming the entire Moretti empire by morning, had lowered his perimeter defenses.
Luca sat in the passenger seat of the lead vehicle, checking the action on his custom automatic rifle with calm efficiency.
Beside him, Marco and eight seasoned Moretti soldiers adjusted their tactical gear in complete, disciplined silence.
"Remember," Luca instructed through the encrypted comms headset, "we take Antonio alive."
"Evelyn Carter deserves to look the man who set that warehouse on fire in the eyes before he answers for his crimes."
The convoy stopped abruptly in the circular driveway of the sprawling mansion, the headlights cutting through the falling snow.
Before the Bellini sentries could raise their weapons, Luca’s men breached the front doors with explosive breaching charges.
The thunderous blast shattered the midnight quiet of the affluent suburb, sending splinters of oak flying across the marble foyer.
Luca moved through the entryway like a shadow, taking down three armed guards with non-lethal, pinpoint shots to their limbs.
The remaining Bellini enforcers threw their weapons to the floor, terrified by the ruthless precision of the Moretti strike team.
Luca kicked open the double doors of the second-floor executive study, finding Antonio Bellini scrambling to open a wall safe.
The sixty-five-year-old mob boss turned around, his face pale with terror as he stared down the barrel of Luca’s rifle.
"Where is Donna?" Antonio gasped, his hands trembling as he backed against his mahogany desk.
"Donna is in our holding cells, Antonio, singing like a bird about the warehouse fire of 1986," Luca said smoothly.
Luca stepped forward, disarming the older man with a swift, brutal strike to his wrist before forcing him to his knees.
Marco entered the room, holding open a heavy leather briefcase containing ledgers, deeds, and recorded extortion tapes.
"We found the original extortion documents, boss," Marco reported. "Including the payout receipts for the warehouse arsonist."
Antonio looked up at Luca, realizing that forty years of calculated deception, theft, and bloodshed had completely collapsed.
"Frank was supposed to die," Antonio wheezed, blood dripping from his split lip.
"He was an obstacle to our family's destiny."
Luca looked down at him with pure, cold disgust, lowering his weapon as two enforcers handcuffed the defeated don.

"Frank survived because a real woman loved him enough to walk through hell for him," Luca said coldly.
"And your destiny, Antonio, ends tonight in a concrete cell."
