Chapter 7 - The Counter-Strike

Serena did not wait for the Falcone family to regroup.

The next morning, she launched a coordinated financial assault on their legitimate front businesses.

Using the vast resources of Voss Strategic, she initiated hostile takeovers of their primary laundering hubs—three real estate firms and a commercial shipping line.

She flooded the market with dumped shares, tanking their valuations while simultaneously triggering anonymous SEC audits.

Within forty-eight hours, the Falcone syndicate was bleeding millions in clean capital.

Luciano arrived at her office unannounced, bypassing her security with the clearance she hadn't realized he still possessed.

He found her standing over a holographic mapping table, tracking the collapse of the Falcone stock prices.

“You are starting a war,” he said, though there was a note of dark admiration in his voice.

“I am ending a nuisance,” she corrected, not looking up.

“They tried to kill me, Luciano. I am simply returning the favor in my own currency.”

He walked around the table, stopping just inches from her side.

“You are ruthless,” he observed quietly.

“I learned from the best,” she replied, finally meeting his eyes.

The proximity between them was electric, crackling with unresolved tension and a dangerous, mutual respect.

He reached out, his fingers lightly brushing a stray lock of auburn hair from her cheek.

She didn't pull away immediately, allowing herself a brief moment to analyze the heat radiating from him.

“Why did you really come here today?” she asked softly.

“To tell you that Falcone has called for a sit-down,” he answered, his hand dropping.

“He wants peace, but he wants you at the table.”

Serena smiled, a cold, calculating expression that made Luciano’s breath catch.

“Arrange it,” she ordered.

“I want to look him in the eye when I take the rest of his empire.”

Luciano nodded, stepping back, realizing that the woman he had once controlled was now commanding him.

And heaven help him, he found it intoxicating.
