Chapter 11 - The Fall of the Rossis

|
With Vanessa safely behind federal bars, Luca turned his undivided attention toward Dominic Rossi, the orchestrator who had weaponized a child to steal an empire.
That evening, a storm rolled over the Chicago River, whipping cold rain against the corrugated metal roofs of the industrial shipping district.
Inside a cavernous warehouse along the southern canal, Dominic Rossi stood surrounded by eight of his top enforcers, frantically loading duffel bags filled with cash and untraceable bearer bonds into armored vans.
"Hurry it up!" Rossi bellowed, his gravelly voice echoing in the damp space.
"The federal agents are already raiding the Bellini offices, and Moretti's crews have cut off our access to the expressway!"
Suddenly, the massive industrial roll-up doors at both ends of the warehouse shuddered and collapsed inward with a deafening crash.
Four heavy tactical trucks barreled through the entrances, their high-beam floodlights blinding Rossi and his men.
Dozens of armed men in dark tactical gear stepped out of the shadows, their laser sights painting bright red dots across the chests of Rossi's security detail.
Rossi’s enforcers immediately dropped their weapons to the concrete floor, raising their hands in unconditional surrender.
Through the blinding glare of the spotlights, Luca Moretti strode forward, dressed in a long black wool overcoat, flanked by Marco and his most trusted lieutenants.
Dominic Rossi fell to his knees beside his open duffel bag, his face pale with mortal dread.
"Luca... please, hear me out," Rossi begged, his hands trembling as he held them out in supplication.
"The plot against the boy... it was all Vanessa’s idea!"
"She came to me begging for money to cover her debts, promising she would handle everything!"
"I never wanted the kid hurt, Luca, on my mother’s grave, I swear it!"
Luca stopped two paces away from the trembling mob boss, looking down at him with utter revulsion.
"You swore on your mother's grave while financing the poison that nearly stopped my nine-year-old boy's heart," Luca said, his voice slicing through the rain hammering against the roof.
Marco stepped forward, tossing a thick bundle of documents onto the wet concrete in front of Rossi.
"These are deed transfers for every shipping dock, every warehouse, and every commercial lease the Rossi family owns in the state of Illinois," Luca announced with cold authority.
"Sign every single page right now."
Rossi blinked in confusion, his voice shaking.
"You... you aren't going to kill me?"
"Killing you would make you a martyr to your remaining cousins in New York," Luca replied with icy precision.
"Instead, you are going to sign over every scrap of territory you own to the Moretti Foundation."
"You are going to take the next cargo freighter out of the Great Lakes to Europe with fifty dollars in your pocket and never set foot on North American soil again."
"If you ever return, if you ever utter my family's name, or if you even look in the direction of Chicago, my men will deliver your head to your cousins in a wooden crate."
With shaking hands, Dominic Rossi picked up the pen Marco offered and scribbled his signature across every single transfer document.
By midnight, the Rossi empire in Chicago had ceased to exist, absorbed entirely into the Moretti holdings without a single innocent civilian harmed in the crossfire.
Luca turned away from the vanquished mobster, dialing my personal phone number as he walked back toward his waiting vehicle.
"Claire," Luca said the moment I answered from Benjamin's quiet hospital room.

"It is finished."
"The city is secure, our enemies are broken, and tomorrow morning, I am bringing my son home."
